The Tragically Hip x PWHL
The Tragically Hip are one of Canada’s most influential and beloved bands, formed in Kingston, Ontario by a group of close friends whose music became deeply woven into the country’s cultural identity. Known for their poetic storytelling and emotional resonance, the band built a legacy that extends far beyond record sales or awards, creating a connection with fans that remains unmatched across generations.
That sense of purpose has always extended beyond music. For decades, The Tragically Hip have quietly and consistently championed social causes, with a long‑standing commitment to women’s sports—especially women’s hockey. As early as the 1990s, they were backing and supporting the women’s game at a time when few others were, using their platform to help elevate athletes and advocate for equity long before it became part of the mainstream conversation.
This collaboration with the PWHL grew directly from that history. One of the athletes the band supported was Jayna Hefford, and when her number was retired, it was The Tragically Hip who presented the honour—a moment that speaks to the depth of that relationship. Nearly 30 years in the making, this partnership is entirely organic, rooted in shared values and mutual respect. By blending an iconic Hip symbol—the shield—with the future of women’s hockey, the collaboration brings together Canada’s greatest band and its greatest game in a way that feels authentic, earned, and true.
